Alumni Story | Jen En Tsai : From Clinical Nursing to Advancing Population Health

From Clinical Practice to a New Journey in Public Health

I am a nurse deeply passionate about clinical medicine, with nearly three years of frontline healthcare experience. As my clinical exposure deepened, I began to envision using my expertise not only to help individual patients but also to make a broader impact on population health. This aspiration led me to decisively shift toward the field of public health and embark on a new chapter in life.

Practice-Oriented Program: A Flexible Path for the Passionate

The MPH is a practice-oriented program equivalent to a master’s degree. It offers diverse admission routes for both working professionals and full-time students, aiming to cultivate public health professionals with both academic knowledge and hands-on capabilities. The curriculum emphasizes the integration of theory and practice, focusing especially on developing problem-solving skills. For those with a clinical background or a strong interest in public health, MPH is an attractive and flexible learning environment.

Exploration and Application: Discovering Your Own Direction

The program covers six core areas of public health, allowing students to explore various domains and gradually identify their true interests and aspirations. One of the highlights is the practical internship, which gives students valuable opportunities to apply what they’ve learned in real-world public health settings and gain meaningful experience.

Confident Growth: From Learning to a Fulfilling Career

In the MPH program, I chose to focus on epidemiology and biostatistics. Along the way, I met many devoted teachers and supportive administrative staff who genuinely cared about students. With their guidance and encouragement, I successfully completed the program and entered my ideal career path. Now, whenever I introduce myself, I proudly say: "I come from National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University — I come from MPH!"
